The Nature of Walking in the Cevennes

Alll walks in the Cevennes involve daily ascents and descents. However, we have deliberately designed the itineraries to be accessible to anyone generally fit and active who walks regularly. Our walks tend to vary between 4 and 6 hours in length, walking at a comfortable pace.  On longer or more demanding days, we offer drop-offs at the start of the day to lessen the initial ascent or reduce the overall distance walked (but these lifts are of course not obligatory!).

The paths are mainly ancient drovers’ tracks that are rocky and uneven underfoot. You will need walking boots with tough, non slip soles and ankle support. We strongly recommend walking poles, particularly for the descents. Some ascents and descents may be steep in places. If you have any doubts as to whether you are fit enough for one of our holidays, please ask us for advice. We know the routes inside out and are very happy to give you lots of details on the nature of the walking eg: distance, height climbed and descended each day, nature of the paths, average walking time etc. so that you can confidently chose the trip that is right for you.

Please contact us to discuss any of the holidays in greater depth.
