Gorges of the Tarn & Jonte

This holiday explores the spectacular gorges of the Tarn and Jonte and the vast limestone plateau of "Les Grands Causses", which lie to the north west of the Cevennes National Park.

You spend your first 3 nights in Le Rozier, a pretty village lying at the confluent of the Tarn and Jonte Gorges. From here, you have a choice of breathtaking circular walks. As well as stunning views, you are likely to enjoy flying displays from Griffon and Black Vultures set against the dramatic backdrop of the gorges.

You then cross the Causse Mejean, passing many tempting distractions en-route such as a cheese producer, a rural museum, a farm restaurant and the stunning cave of Aven Armand, before dropping down to the pretty riverside village of Meyrueis where you stay for your remaining 3 nights. Meyrueis lies between the gorges, the "Grands Causses" and the Cévennes mountains and offers a wealth of exhilarating walks. You can explore the Causse Noir and the Causse Méjean, with their extraordinary rock formations or visit another cave set in a spectacular position on the cliffs of the Jonte Gorge.

If you are unsure whether an onward journey or a one centre trip would suit you best then this route offers the best of both worlds, with enough time in each place to linger, explore or simply have a leisurely day.

You set the pace.
